Belgium Most Luxurious Treehouse Retreat

Sleeping in the romantic treehouse, NOUR

With heartfelt sincerity, I can say that one of the most special, peaceful and romantic places my daughter and I have ever visited is tucked away in the heart of the Ardennes. Perched high on a hill, overlooking the valley and the winding river below, our exclusive treehouse cabin is located near Houffalize, Belgium.

Les Cabanes de Rensiwez offers several beautifully designed cabins, each with its own unique atmosphere and character. This long weekend, we are staying in NOUR, our mountain-style treehouse — a secluded hideaway surrounded by forest, silence and breathtaking views.

A ride through the Ardennes

After a 2.5-hour drive, we arrived around 8 o’clock in the evening, shrouded in darkness, at the cozy reception of Les Chambres de Résiwiz. Unfortunately, the temperature had dropped to 4 degrees Celsius, and rain had begun to fall. But despite the weather, we were warmly welcomed into the inviting reception cottage, which also housed a small shop. The comforting scent of a crackling fireplace greeted us, providing a delightful respite from the rain and cold.

At the reception

We were handed a map with instructions on where to park the car and how to continue our journey on foot up the hill. They also provided us with a headlamp for the trail, as we would be walking through the forest up the mountain in the pitch darkness and the stormy rain. Despite the challenging conditions, excitement filled us as we prepared to embark on this mountainous path. We could leave two bags there to be carried up for us, but the rest had to be on our backs.

At the wooden cottage, where our suitcases awaited. Despite the rain and darkness, many guests eagerly explored the small reception which also doubled as a shop and a cozy place to enjoy a drink by the crackling fireplace. Delicious homemade honey and jam were neatly displayed, tempting our taste, while marshmallows and chocolate awaited indulgence. Ordering breakfast for the next morning was a breeze, with a list provided to customize our meal preferences, to be delivered to our cottage by 9 a.m. in a specially designated spot at the foot of the stairs.

Filled with curiosity and excitement, we couldn’t wait to embark on our mountain adventure. After donning raincoats, boots, hats, and, of course, our headlamps, we prepared for the journey ahead. Unfortunately, we had forgotten to put Chaxx’s light-up collar on, and amidst the darkness, he became nearly invisible. Armed with an umbrella each, we set out on our adventure, expecting a 20-minute walk. However, the reality was much more challenging – despite the layers of clothing, we found ourselves sweating from exertion and struggling to catch our breath in the thin mountain air. Arriving at the top, we were exhausted and soaked, only to be greeted by a long wooden staircase leading down to the cottages, each marked with a name. After descending, we finally found our cottage, named NOUR, and eagerly climbed the steps to explore our temporary home.

As we opened the door, and stepping inside we were greeted by the warm embrace of rustic and cozy comforts, the woody scent enveloped us, and we couldn’t help but marvel at the cozy and romantic atmosphere. The interior was a charming blend of rustic elegance, with a small kitchenette on the left, a dining area overlooking the valley, and a cozy seating area with a fireplace. A small wooden staircase led to a second floor, where a luxurious copper bathtub awaited, accompanied by a spacious mirror, a sink, and additional seating areas surrounded by charming windows. Our bed, nestled halfway up the wall, felt like something out of a fairytale, accessible by two small steps on either side, offering a bird’s-eye view of the kitchen and seating area below. Every detail of the cottage was carefully crafted from natural materials, creating a magical ambiance that made us feel incredibly fortunate to experience such enchantment once again.

As the Cottage Settled Into Night

Day slowly filled the bath, adding a few drops of her favorite essential oils and bath bombs to create a luxurious soak. Meanwhile, I lit the fireplace in the living room, casting a cozy glow throughout the cottage. The space was surrounded by large windows adorned with black shutters, which we closed to create an even more intimate atmosphere. Meanwhile, Chaxx continued his exploration of the cottage, sniffing out every nook and cranny. We prepared a cozy spot for him by the fireplace and set out his food and water bowls in the kitchen.

finished setting up the bath, I climbed the wooden staircase to the second floor, carrying two mugs of warm hot chocolate. She had set up a laptop with a delightful movie for us to enjoy. Slowly
we eased into the warm water, reveling in the fragrant bubbles created by the bath bomb. Despite both of us fitting comfortably in the spacious tub, we couldn’t help but giggle as we splashed around, thoroughly enjoying ourselves. After about half an hour of blissful relaxation, we changed into our pajamas and settled down by the fireplace, feeling warm and content

A Cozy Night in the Treehouse

After a wonderfully cozy evening by the crackling fireplace, where we made marshmallows with biscuits and laughed together, we slowly and lazily crawled into bed, knowing we would be up early the next morning to explore the surroundings. We snuggled under the covers, wrapped in soft linens and silence, and put on a gentle film on the laptop — one of those simple moments that feel unexpectedly perfect.

In that moment — surrounded by nature, the lingering warmth of the fire, the soft crackle still echoing in the background, and the intimate coziness of the cabin — my daughter and I felt deeply grateful to be sharing such a magical place together. Arriving here after dark had already been an experience in itself, and laughing our way up the mountain through the pouring rain had turned the journey into an adventure. We couldn’t wait to see what the next day would bring.

Outside, the cold had truly settled in and rain continued to fall, but the steady rhythm of raindrops on the roof only made everything feel more comforting, almost like a lullaby. It felt safe and familiar, as if the world had slowed down just for us — a place where we could easily have stayed for weeks. Just before drifting off to sleep, we heard the distant call of an owl echo through the night, knowing we were creating memories that would stay with us forever.

A Slow Morning in Nature

The next morning, I woke up alone in bed. The bed was positioned high in the cabin, almost floating, allowing me to quietly look down through the mirror above the bathtub. In the living space below, softly illuminated by the early morning light, I watched Day and Chaxx carefully setting the table — moving gently, whispering almost, so as not to wake me. Plates and glasses were already in place, and in the kitchen Day was heating water for tea.

I quietly climbed out of our little bed and made my way down the small staircase to the bathroom level, from where I could overlook the living room, dining area and kitchen. There I saw my little girl, Day, finishing the breakfast table, while Chaxx waited patiently by her side. Slowly, Day opened the curtains, allowing even more morning light to flood the cabin and fully reveal the view — the valley, the forest and the rolling hills in the distance.

Watching the two of them like that, your heart naturally fills with love — for those quiet, shared moments that become memories without anyone even noticing.

She pulled on her rain boots over her pajamas and walked towards the small wooden hut at the entrance of our private cabane, where the breakfast basket is thoughtfully placed each morning. Chaxx followed faithfully, never leaving her side. Curiosity and excitement sparkled in their eyes. Despite the tempting aroma of warm croissants drifting from the wooden structure, they ventured a little further, eager to see what lay beyond the bend of the stairs. Day could hardly wait to explore the surroundings after breakfast — this nature retreat already felt like an adventure waiting to unfold.

She opened the little hut and carefully lifted out the beautifully scented basket, filled with delicious treats for a luxurious breakfast in nature. With a skip in her step, she returned to the cozy wooden cabin, where I was already seated at the breakfast table, taking in the breathtaking view and the peaceful stillness around us. Once inside, Day couldn’t wait any longer. She opened the wicker basket and began setting the table with joy, revealing an abundant breakfast spread: freshly baked croissants, bread rolls, cold cuts, two perfectly boiled eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice, milk, and small jars of homemade jam and honey. What a true indulgence — simple yet refined, and perfectly in tune with the beauty of this boutique forest getaway.

High up in our treehouse on the mountain, we gazed out over a breathtaking panorama. Rolling hills stretched endlessly in every direction, cloaked in countless shades of green, while the river below meandered gently through the valley — a shimmering silver ribbon catching the morning light. Chaxx had settled beside Day on the bench, her big, sparkling eyes fixed on the breakfast table, patiently hoping for a little treat — which, of course, she received.

Day in Les Cabanes de Rensiwes

After breakfast, we slowly got ready for a long walk through the forest to discover what this unique destination had to offer. Yet, truth be told, we would have happily stayed right there by the fireplace in our cabin, wrapped in warmth, silence and the essence of slow travel — one of those rare moments you wish could last forever.
