Winter Wonderland at Hotel Spielmann: A Romantic Escape in Ehrwald
Nestled at the foot of the majestic Zugspitze in the charming village of Ehrwald, Hotel Spielmann offers a winter escape that feels like stepping into a storybook. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, this family-run hotel has been welcoming guests for nearly a century, spanning four generations of passion and hospitality. Every corner of this hotel has been thoughtfully crafted to deliver a magical and romantic experience.
Day and I have been fortunate to stay at Hotel Spielmann twice, and each visit felt like stepping into a dream. From the very first moment we walked through the door, we were embraced by the warmth of a crackling open fire, the nice welcom by the staff, the enticing aroma of freshly baked bread, and the comforting scent of wood mingled with the sweetness of hot chocolate. It was as if the hotel whispered a gentle welcome, wrapping us in its romantic embrace and promising an unforgettable stay.
A Century of Timeless Romance and Warm Hospitality
Hotel Spielmann is so much more than a place to rest your head,it’s a living, breathing testament to nearly 100 years of heartfelt tradition and love for creating unforgettable experiences. For four generations, the Spielmann family has poured their passion into every corner of this alpine sanctuary, crafting an atmosphere where guests don’t just feel welcome, they feel truly cherished.
It’s the little things that capture your heart: the handwritten welcome cards on your breakfast table, the soft glow of lanterns on snowy evenings, and the warm, genuine smiles of the staff who seem to know exactly what you need, even before you do. Every stay feels like stepping into a story woven with care, where you become part of a legacy of love and hospitality.
A Romantic Retreat in the Heart of the Alps
On both of our visits, Day and I were completely enchanted by the charm of the rooms and suites. Bathed in natural light and adorned with warm woods and soft fabrics, each space feels like a gentle embrace. During our last stay, we had the incredible fortune of staying in one of the exclusive chalet-style suites an experience that has etched itself into our hearts forever.
The suite was nothing short of breathtaking: a cozy living room with a sumptuous sofa, a private pinewood infrared sauna that felt like our personal spa with in that little room your own tv & Netflix 🥰 and a little cozy window where you can look on the mountain tops & ski track.
And a bathroom that was the epitome of indulgence, complete with a whirlpool tub offering a panoramic view of the ski slopes and mountains, as well as a luxurious rain shower. Every evening, we’d retreat to the balcony, wrapped in blankets, watching the snow gently blanket the majestic peaks as the sun sets, as if time itself had paused just for us. It was a love letter to serenity, and we felt every word.
A Wellness Experience to Soothe the Soul
One of the most unforgettable parts of Hotel Spielmann is the Infinity-Felsenpool. Floating in its crystal-clear, heated waters while surrounded by the snow-draped peaks of the Alps was like stepping into a dream. As the pool seamlessly blends into the stunning mountain panorama, it creates a moment so serene that it felt as though we were part of the landscape itself.
We spent countless hours in the Stadl SPA, a true haven of relaxation, where every detail has been designed to nurture body and soul. The panoramic windows offer mesmerizing views of the Zugspitze and the Wetterstein mountains, a backdrop that soothes the mind as much as the spa soothes the body. Wrapped in the soft robes provided in the charming wicker basket in our room, we entered a world of tranquility and indulgence.
The sauna landscape is extraordinary, featuring a variety of “sweat chambers” with different temperatures and humidity levels. In the Stadl sauna, heated to around 80°C, you can gaze directly at the majestic Wetterstein range, including the iconic Zugspitze. For a gentler experience, the Tyrolean herbal bio-sauna at 50°C offers the calming aromas of local herbs, while the Boarnebel steam bath, at 45°C with high humidity, leaves your skin refreshed and your breathing renewed. Cooling off afterward is an invigorating ritual, with options like crushed ice and refreshing cold-water showers.
Between sessions, we retreated to the infrarood-Zirben-rustruimte, where the almost-floating loungers seemed to suspend time, or the Stille Alm relaxation room, where the crackling fire and sweeping mountain views offered the perfect escape from the outside world. To complement the experience, fragrant herbal teas and fresh fruit were always available, creating an atmosphere of pure comfort.
The spa’s attention to detail extends to its luxurious waterbeds, where you can sink into absolute bliss, and the showers, which range from gentle rainfall to revitalizing bursts. Every sensation was heightened by the natural materials, from the smooth wood grains to the soft linens that seemed to mold to our bodies.
For those seeking an active start or end to their day, the modern fitness area is equipped with state-of-the-art Technogym machines, including treadmills, ergometers, cross-trainers, and strength-training equipment. What makes this space exceptional, however, is the breathtaking view through the floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, making every workout feel inspired by the surrounding mountains.
This spa truly engages all the senses. Your fingertips brush against the warm wood surfaces, your skin absorbs the softness of fine fabrics, and the scent of alpine herbs fills the air. You hear only the calming crackle of the fire or the quiet rhythm of your own heartbeat. And as you gaze out at the majestic mountain panorama, you feel yourself unwind effortlessly, merging into the serene beauty of the alpine wonderland.
It’s an experience that not only refreshes the body but renews the spirit, leaving you feeling deeply connected to the stunning natural surroundings and completely at peace.
Culinary Moments to Savor Forever
Dining at Hotel Spielmann is an affair that feels intimate, heartfelt, and indulgent all at once. Day and I still reminisce about the mornings we spent lingering over breakfast in the cozy restaurant, its wooden accents and mountain views making every bite taste even better. The buffet was a feast of delights: fragrant breads fresh from the oven, creamy local cheeses, delicate smoked salmon, and eggs cooked exactly how we liked them. Each morning, we were greeted with a personal, handwritten note on our table—a gesture that never failed to make us smile.
In the evenings, the restaurant transformed into a romantic retreat, where we dined by the fire and marveled at the stars through the large windows. The seasonal dishes, crafted with care and local ingredients, were a celebration of alpine flavors. Sharing those meals with the mountains as our backdrop made every dinner a memory to treasure.
