Welcome to a Wilder Side of Polynesia

There is a moment, somewhere between the boat ride and the first step onto the sand, when the outside world begins to feel very far away.

Hidden on a remote motu in the turquoise folds of Tikehau Atoll, Ninamu Resort is not about polished perfection. It is about something quieter and more memorable: handcrafted bungalows beneath the palms, warm island hospitality and days shaped almost entirely by the ocean.

Mornings begin with bare feet in the sand. Afternoons drift between the lagoon, the reef and the shade of the trees. By evening, the island settles into its own gentle rhythm.

Ninamu feels less like a resort and more like a place you were lucky enough to find.

Why We Love This Stay

Ninamu has a kind of beauty that feels unforced. The bungalows are simple, the island is small and the days move gently between the palms and the water.

What makes this stay special is the feeling of freedom. You can spend the morning on the lagoon, return for a long lunch and let the afternoon unfold without a plan.

It is not polished luxury in the traditional sense. It is something more relaxed, more personal and perfectly suited to the wild softness of Tikehau.

The Handcrafted Bungalows — Island Living with Character

Each bungalow at Ninamu has its own character. Built by hand using local materials, they feel naturally at home among the palms rather than placed upon the island.

There is warmth in the imperfect details: woven textures, weathered wood and open spaces that allow the breeze to move gently through the rooms. Some bungalows sit close to the water, while others feel tucked away beneath the trees.

Nothing is overly polished. That is precisely the charm. The bungalows reflect the spirit of Ninamu — relaxed, personal and deeply connected to the atoll.

Dining Experiences — From Dock to Table

Ninamu’s dining feels rooted in the island. Meals are simple, generous and shaped by what the lagoon and local surroundings have to offer.

Fresh fish, tropical produce and relaxed shared dinners bring a natural rhythm to the day. After hours spent on the water, there is something special about returning to the table as the light begins to soften over the atoll.

The official resort website describes the experience as “farm and dock to table,” which suits Ninamu perfectly: unpretentious, fresh and closely connected to place.

Lagoon & Ocean Adventures — Days Shaped by the Water

At Ninamu, the lagoon is not simply a view. It becomes the rhythm of the day.

Mornings might begin with a quiet paddle across clear water or a swim above the reef. Later, the atoll opens the door to deeper adventures — snorkelling, diving, fishing, surfing and wind sports in a landscape that still feels beautifully untouched.

There is freedom here. Some days invite exploration. Others are best spent drifting slowly between the water and the shade of the palms.

Things To Do Nearby — Explore Beyond the Motu

Beyond Ninamu, Tikehau Atoll invites you to move slowly through its quieter corners. Spend a morning snorkelling above coral gardens, head out for a day of diving or fishing, or explore the lagoon by paddleboard as the water shifts through endless shades of blue.

The beauty of Tikehau lies in its simplicity. Each excursion feels less like a scheduled activity and more like a gentle invitation to experience life on the atoll.

When the Island Slows Down

By late afternoon, Ninamu begins to change. The lagoon turns softer, the palms catch the last light and the pace of the island settles almost without notice.

After a day on the water, there is nowhere you need to be. Dinner is unhurried, conversations linger and the sound of the ocean becomes part of the evening.

It is in these quieter hours that Ninamu feels most memorable — not because something spectacular is happening, but because nothing needs to.

May, June, September and October are especially appealing for a quieter stay.

FAQ About Ninamu Resort

A few practical details for travellers drawn to the quieter side of island life — from choosing the right bungalow to planning a more private stay on Tikehau Atoll.

Are the rates charged per bungalow or per guest?

Rates at Ninamu are charged per guest rather than per bungalow. This is worth keeping in mind when comparing the different accommodation options, especially when travelling as a family or a larger group.

Are all of the bungalows air-conditioned?

No. Teahupoo and Vini Vini have air-conditioning, while the other bungalows rely on natural ventilation and additional fans. Travellers who prefer a cooler room at night should choose their bungalow carefully when booking.

Is Ninamu suitable for travelling with children?

Yes. Infants under the age of two stay free, while child rates apply from ages two to fourteen. Some of the larger bungalows are especially well suited to families seeking an island stay with space and a relaxed rhythm.

Can the entire island be reserved privately?

Yes. A full-island buyout can be arranged for up to 26 guests. This makes Ninamu an unusual option for a private celebration, an intimate group journey or a special gathering far from the usual resort setting.

Can a private charter flight be arranged?

Yes. Private charter flights can be organised for travellers who need more flexibility or are arriving with a larger group. Availability and pricing should be discussed directly with the resort before travelling.
